Shuert Industries is committed to supporting the community in which we serve. This includes an ongoing effort to enhance local business climates through our Shuert Industries Supplier Diversity Program.
The Shuert Industries Supplier Diversity Program is designed to foster the growth of small, women and minority-owned companies. As a corporation, we rely upon a network of business partners to meet the needs of our customers.
A wide range of suppliers is utilized to support our business operations. We recognize that there are many experienced, diverse suppliers available, some of which we are currently using.
Shuert Industries is committed to expanding opportunities for small, women and minority-owned companies in the participation of our contracting and bidding processes, both for direct procurement of goods and services and through subcontracting opportunities.
At Shuert Industries, all aspects of the business enjoy the advantage of diversity. We benefit from diversity in our workforce, our customers, and of course, our supplier base.
Program Criteria
Minority Business Enterprise - A minority business is a small business concern that is at least fifty-one percent (51%) unconditionally owned by one (1) or more individuals defined by federal law as minority, or a publicly owned business that has at least fifty-one percent (51%) of its stock unconditionally owned by one (1) or more individuals defined by federal law as minority and that has its management and daily business controlled by one (1) or more such individuals.
Women’s Business Enterprise - A women owned business is a small business concern that is at least fifty-one percent (51%) unconditionally owned by one (1) or more women or a publicly owned business that has at least fifty-one percent (51%) of its stock unconditionally owned by one (1) or more women and that has its management daily business controlled by one (1) or more such individuals.
To be recognized as a small business for purposes of the Shuert Supplier Diversity Program, the firm must meet the criteria used by the Small Business Administration (SBA) to determine if a firm qualifies as a small business concern. The criteria used is specific to the industry in question and includes criteria such as numbers of employees, total sales, and/or production capability.
Components of Shuert Industries' Supplier Diversity Program are:
Outreach - actively seeking diverse suppliers;
Qualification - review and input of selected business criteria;
Development - review of additional needs of suppliers and exploring ways to provide assistance to them;
Utilization - activities in the purchasing processes, such as routine purchases, requests for bids and contracts and other forms of purchase.
The Purchasing Department will monitor the implementation of the program and progress of the program utilizing tools provided by Shuert Industries and any other available resources. The Purchasing Department is responsible for reporting program activities to management.
Program Goals:
Shuert Industries is committed to the development of an increasing skilled and diverse workforce, which is reflective of our customer base.
Shuert Industries is committed to maximizing opportunities and establishing annual procurement goals for minority-owned businesses and woman-owned businesses.
By year-end 2006, our plan is to reach an 8 percent spending goal for minority-owned businesses and woman-owned businesses combined. This will be based on our total outside purchases for goods and services. Concurrently, we plan to seek continuous improvement from all Shuert Industries suppliers.

Shuert Industries policy is to encourage the establishment and growth of small, woman, and minority-owned suppliers through technical assistance, with a focus on building long-lasting business relationships.

Competitive Pricing\Cost Savings - We appreciate suppliers who continually look for ways to help us lower our costs through savings in all areas.

Technology - We look favorably on companies who take advantage of the use of technology to maintain a competitive edge and can add to their responsiveness.
Becoming a Supplier to Shuert Industries
Shuert Industries sets high standards of performance for itself and the products and services we produce. We expect the same from our suppliers, in the areas such as quality, responsiveness and service commitments. Shuert Industries views suppliers as a valuable extension of our business.
Shuert Industries continues to seek suppliers through sound business principles. In addition, we seek to build relationships with proven organizations. We invest in supplier education, outreach and in developing solid business relationships.
Potential small, woman, and minority-owned suppliers may be invited to meet with Shuert Industries representatives for a discussion regarding their products and services. When necessary, we will provide small, woman, and minority-owned suppliers with the technical assistance and information to assist them in becoming suppliers.
Suppliers should have:
1. Established record of business performance through a history of having provided products or service with timeliness and reliability.
2. Sufficient knowledge of the industry to be cost competitive and offer added value.
3. Staying power to persevere through the corporate buying process to develop a long-term relationship.
